A'S TAKE A FLYER ON CASPER WELLS

The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Casper Wells from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The A's usually find success with retreads and castoffs, so Wells should be encouraged by the fact he's landed in Oakland. For now, he will likely be used off the bench but may eventually fill a platoon role in Oakland (perhaps in right field). His versatility in the outfield could help him stick to the bigs this time around.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays didn't have Wells for long and decided they couldn't keep him at this time. So, they sold him for some cash. There was a numbers game with Toronto, as {P Melky Cabrera}, {P Colby Rasmus}, {P Jose Bautista}, {P Rajai Davis} and {P Emilio Bonifacio} were all ahead of Wells (plus {P Anthony Gose} down on the farm).

Fantasy impact
Wells needs to catch a break and make the most of it, since he's on the verge of being labeled a journeyman. Oakland might be the right fit for him, so he does have a bit of sleeper appeal in fantasy circles.
