YANKEES ADD VETERAN DEPTH WITH ICHIRO
The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners for pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar.
What does it give the New York Yankees
In a bit of a shocking trade, the Yankees land the legendary Ichiro to patrol right field for the rest of the 2012 campaign. He starts out batting eighth in the order for manager Joe Girardi, but may wind up hitting second between Derek Jeter and either Alex Rodriguez or Mark Teixeira. Suzuki's contract runs out at the end of the season, so there is no guarantee he'll stay with the Yanks.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners clearly wanted to dump their veteran superstar, mainly because of the fact their offense is in rebuilding mode and also due to reports of Ichiro's 'me-first' attitude. The M's land a serviceable and versatile right-hander in Mitchell and decent relief prospect in Farquhar. However, neither pitcher is expected to make an impact. This was a move designed to part ways with Ichiro. Period.
