BRADLEY FOR SILVA

The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Milton Bradley from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Carlos Silva.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners are hoping that Bradley can stay out of trouble long enough to produce runs for them. He's expected to play left field, though he may DH on occasion as well. While he has off-field issues, Bradley is viewed as better bang for the buck than Silva, despite the fact he has more time left on his contract.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs, like many other big-league organizations, grew tired of Bradley's act quickly. Therefore, they moved him for Silva--who has struggled mightily since leaving Minnesota after 2007. The Cubs may use him as the fifth starter or in long relief. Chicago saves money with this deal, which was key.
