A'S, CUBS MAKE A DEAL

The Oakland Athletics acquired infielders Aaron Miles and Jake Fox for pitchers Jeff Gray and Ronny Morla, and outfielder Matthew Spencer.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The A's get some infield insurance in the form of Miles and Fox. The switch-hitting Miles can play second base, shortstop and third base, while Fox has experience on the infield and outfield corners, as well as behind the plate. Fox may also emerge as a DH candidate and has the most upside in this deal from an Oakland perspective.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs should have room for Gray in their bullpen, which will continue to undergo change this off-season. The 21-year-old Morla is a long-range project with decent upside as a big-league starter, while Spencer has power and run-producing ability. This move also clears a spot on Chicago's 40-man roster, so more moves are expected.
