LINEBRINK TO BRAVES
The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Scott Linebrink and cash from the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Kyle Cofield.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Linebrink adds a little more experience to the Braves 2011 bullpen, which is important after the club saw closer Billy Wagner retire after the 2010 campaign. Linebrink should pitch as a setup man with the Braves.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The White Sox were anxious to part with some of Linebrink's salary, so they shipped him to the Braves and also sent them $3.5 million in cash to cover most of Linebrink's $5.5 million contract for 2011. Cofield will only turn 24 in January, so he has some upside as a starter/reliever hybrid.
