CHISOX RE-ACQUIRE EVERETT

The Chicago White Sox acquired outfielder Carl Everett from the Montreal Expos for pitcher Jon Rauch and minor league pitcher Gary Majewski.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Expos, reeling in last place, simply had no need to carry a $3-million player in Everett and they got good value in return. Rauch, the tallest player in baseball history, has had trouble establishing himself in Chicago but is still very promising and plenty young enough to have his wrongs righted and establish himself as a regular big-league starter. Majewski is another promising young righty who has had some success in the minors over the past few years after being converted from starter to reliever, with 14 saves at Triple-A this year. Both pitchers could find themselves in the majors very soon.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Again, the Sox were losing patience with Rauch, so they could afford to deal him, no matter how patient he is. Meanwhile, they get Everett back into their lineup to fill the hole left by injured slugger Frank Thomas. We say "back" because the Sox acquired him last July and he spent the rest of the summer doing some solid slugging for them.
