RAYS ADD BADENHOP FROM MIAMI
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Burke Badenhop from the Miami Marlins for catcher Jake Jefferies.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
While he hasn't had a lot of success in the majors yet, Badenhop has a live arm and an affordable contract, and his ability to either start or relieve should make him a solid addition to the Rays' staff. Expect him to work in middle and long relief situations (since the Rays have so much depth in the rotation).
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The retooling Marlins obviously see something they like in Jefferies, who showed more in college than he has the past few years in the minors. He remains a solid talent, however, and Miami can certainly use more depth behind the plate. That's what this deal was all about for them.
