CANARIO MOVED TO THE METS

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the Chicago Cubs for cash.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Canario, the Mets pick up a young power-hitting outfielder with strikeout issues. The 24-year-old was still a decent prospect recently, and he has always put up impressive home run totals in the minors, so perhaps a fresh start is what he needs. If he doesn't make the Opening Day roster, Canario could earn a look with the Mets later in the season.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Canario did not have a path to regular playing time with the Cubs, and he may not have been versatile enough to keep a bench job in 2025. As a result, he was designated for assignment before this trade. Given Canario's potential at the plate, the Cubs were able to get some cash from the Mets.

Fantasy impact
Canario could see more at-bats with the Mets, but even after the trade he is unlikely to be an everyday player. That will limit his fantasy value. Keep an eye on him though. His power and speed make him a player to monitor the next few seasons.
