Basabe will add to San Francisco's infield depth for 2025. The 24-year-old is a light-hitting base stealer who can play multiple positions. That could make him a useful bench player.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays designated Basabe for assignment shortly before this trade, after he was unable to earn another MLB call-up in 2024. They got some cash in return from the Giants.
Fantasy impact
Basabe's stolen base potential could interest fantasy mangers, but he has not done enough to earn MLB playing time. He should not be rostered, as he is likely to spend much of 2025 in the minor leagues.
