BRASIER BROUGHT IN BY THE CUBS
The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Ryan Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Brasier, the Cubs bring in a veteran high-leverage reliever. The long-time Red Sox pitcher was a great fit with the Dodgers the last two seasons, though he may have a hard time sustaining that success as he enters his age-38 season. Still, Brasier will be another proven arm for Chicago's bullpen, which should be much improved in 2025. This looks like a good low-risk addition by the Cubs.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
Despite Brasier's success in Los Angeles, he was the odd man out after they made several bullpen additions this off-season. Not surprisingly, there was interest after the Dodgers designated him for assignment. In return from the Cubs, they were able to get a player to be named later (likely a future prospect), who will likely add more value to the organization than Brasier would have.
Fantasy impact
Brasier's value will remain about the same in Chicago. He does not strike out enough batters or register enough holds for most fantasy formats, but he can be useful in some deeper leagues. Wait and see if he takes on a larger role with the Cubs or if he regresses.
