RAYS BRING IN BRANDON EISERT
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Brandon Eisert from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
In Eisert, the Rays pick up a depth left-handed reliever. The 27-year-old made his MLB debut last season (3 ER in 6.2 IP). He pitched effectively in recent minor-league seasons, though he has rarely worked in high-leverage situations. Expect Eisert to compete for a bullpen job with Tampa Bay this spring, but he may begin the year with Triple-A Durham.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto designated Eisert for assignment after adding to their bullpen this off-season. The move was a bit surprising, since Eisert was a draft pick of the Blue Jays and had performed well in the minors. But they appear to be comfortable with their lefty reliever depth. In return for Eisert, Toronto was able to add some cash from Tampa Bay.
