The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Will Klein from the Oakland Athletics for international bonus pool money.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Klein gives Seattle some extra bullpen depth heading into 2025. A right-handed reliever, he struggled in his MLB debut last year (9 ER in 7.2 IP). Walks have always been a problem but Klein has fared better in the minor leagues. He will try to find more consistency with the Mariners.
What does it give the Athletics
Klein was unlikely to win a job in the Athletics bullpen this season, so they designated him for assignment shortly before this trade. They got some international free agent money in return, which could help net them a prospect with more long-term potential than Klein.
