The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Michael Arias from the Chicago Cubs for cash.
What does it give the New York Yankees
In Arias, the Yankees bring in a talented young pitcher with control problems. The 23-year-old had been developing as a starter but moved to the bullpen last season. He has always had excellent strikeout ability, but also a high walk rate to go with it.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs signed Arias in 2021, but they chose to move on after his control issues continued in the bullpen last season. They designated him for assignment prior to this trade, and at least added some cash for sending him to the Yankees.
Fantasy impact
Arias has strikeout upside but the walks have prevented him from even getting a look in MLB. If the Yankees can find an effective role for him, he could eventually generate some interest in fantasy leagues. But for now, he will likely pitch in the minors, keeping him off the fantasy radar.
