MASTROBUONI MOVED TO THE MARINERS
The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder Miles Mastrobuoni from the Chicago Cubs for cash.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Mastrobuoni will add to Seattle's infield depth going into 2025. The 29-year-old can play multiple positions and has above-average speed. Those qualities make him useful in a bench role, even if he has never managed much offense against MLB pitching (.219/.279/.263 in 247 career AB). Mastrobuoni will challenge for a spot with the Mariners in spring training.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are trying to upgrade their bench from last season, so they designated Mastrobuoni for assignment shortly before this trade. They were at least able to secure some cash in return for him. While he was versatile, Mastrobuoni did not do enough during his time in Chicago to justify a spot on the 40-man roster. So he was sold to Seattle.
Fantasy impact
Mastrobuoni can steal bases, but he does not see enough playing time to be a factor in fantasy leagues. That is unlikely to change now that he is a Mariner.
