ARIZONA ADDS ASTROS' KESSINGER
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Grae Kessinger from the Houston Astros for pitcher Matthew Linskey.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Kessinger provides Arizona with additional infield depth for the 2025 season. The 27-year-old has appeared in just 49 MLB games so far, hitting .131 with one home run in 61 at-bats. His power is limited, but he has some speed and decent on-base skills. He also plays multiple positions, which can make him a valuable bench player. Kessinger will try to win a role this spring.
What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros are moving on from Kessinger after selecting him in the second round of the 2019 draft. Linskey will be a new bullpen prospect for the organization. The Diamondbacks selected him late in the 2023 draft, and he finished last season at high Single-A ball. The right-hander has good strikeout stuff, so he could have more long-term upside than Kessinger.
Fantasy impact
Kessinger might have a better chance at an MLB roster spot in Arizona, but even then he will not be a factor in fantasy leagues. As for Linskey, he has a lot to prove before he gets a look in an MLB bullpen. That will keep him off the fantasy radar for now.
