CUBS TRADE THAISS TO THE WHITE SOX
The Chicago White Sox acquired catcher Matt Thaiss from the Chicago Cubs for cash.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
In Thaiss, the White Sox pick up a serviceable backup catcher. Korey Lee will likely be the starter this season, but Thaiss adds versatility as a left-handed hitter with pop and decent on-base skills. He could even challenge for more playing time if Lee does not improve upon his rookie-season performance.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
This off-season, the Cubs signed catcher Carson Kelly to form a catching tandem with Miguel Amaya. That addition made Thaiss (previously acquired from the Angels) expendable. He did not have a lot of trade value, so the Cubs at least got some cash in return for the veteran catcher.
Fantasy impact
This trade has no fantasy impact. Thaiss will likely be a backup with the White Sox and has never been consistent enough to roster in fantasy leagues.
