ELOY JIMENEZ JOINS BALTIMORE!

The Baltimore Orioles acquired designated hitter/outfielder Eloy Jimenez and cash from the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Trey McGough.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
In Jimenez, the Orioles pick up an imposing power bat. That said, the 27-year-old's power is down this season (65 GP, 5 HR). Furthermore, he often battles injuries and has not played the field at all this year, so he may be limited to DH duty only. He will likely start out in a platoon playing against left-handers, but could force his way to more at-bats if he can turn things around.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
This is a very disappointing end to Jimenez' time with the White Sox. The trade appears to be a salary dump in part, and they only got a relief pitching prospect in return. McGough was a Rule 5 Draft selection in 2022 and has since worked his way up to Triple-A ball. The left-hander sported a 1.99 ERA this season and could make his MLB debut with the White Sox fairly soon.

Fantasy impact
Jimenez' playing time will likely take a hit, with the Orioles having so much depth. He will need to earn his at-bats and may be eased into a platoon role. That does not bode well for his fantasy value, but Jimenez has enough power and upside that he is worth a look in most fantasy formats. McGough has no value.
