A'S DEAL DAVIS TO YANKEES
The New York Yankees acquired infielder J.D. Davis and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics for infielder Jordan Groshans.
What does it give the New York Yankees
Davis played both corner infield positions before Oakland designated him for assignment due to his lack of offensive production. The Yankees will give him another chance to find his bat with Anthony Rizzo out long term. Best case scenario? He rediscovers his 2023 form. Worst case: he cannot find his swing and the Yankees are left searching.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Groshans has struggled to meet expectations since being drafted 12th overall in the 2018 MLB draft. The Athletics will be his fourth MLB team in six years. He has a much better chance of seeing regular playing time with the rebuilding Athletics. Expect him to get an opportunity to showcase his ability before the season is through.
Fantasy impact
Davis's fantasy impact has vanished since last season. His power stroke has abandoned him and he cannot seem to stick in an MLB lineup anymore. Playing in the hitter-friendly AL East may help, but do not rush to pick him up off the waiver wire. Groshans never turned into the hitter he was expected to become, therefore eliminating any fantasy value he could have had when drafted.
