TAMPA BAY SENDS RALEY TO SEATTLE

The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays for infielder Jose Caballero.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Raley is the second outfielder the Mariners acquired today. He could platoon with Mitch Haniger in right field or see playing time in left field. He can also play first base. Raley adds a power/speed combination that the Mariners offense could certainly use. This Seattle lineup will look different next season.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Caballero is a classic Rays player. He is a versatile, quick player who broke into MLB in 2023. With the Wander Franco situation in flux, he could even become the Rays starting shortstop if he builds on his breakout year. This trade is similar to when the Rays acquired Jose Siri, who took off with the Rays.

Fantasy impact
Raley is not a year-long starter, but he could be a contributor as a bench player in various league formats. Caballero could be a valuable sleeper pick if he does win the Rays' starting shortstop job and takes off (as other players have done with the Rays).
