ORIOLES AND MARINERS MAKE A MINOR DEAL
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Eduard Bazardo from the Orioles for pitcher Logan Rinehart.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners bring in the more major-league ready arm in this one-for-one swap. Bazardo, a right-handed relief pitcher, gave up three runs in 2.1 innings with the Orioles this season, but he did pitch more effectively for the Red Sox in 2022 (2.76 ERA in 16.1 IP). He will begin in the minors after the trade, but he could get recalled soon with the Mariners sellers at the trade deadline.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles had recently designated Bazardo for assignment, so bringing a younger pitcher in Rinehart is a good move. That said, Rinehart is 25 years old and was only pitching in high Single-A ball. He has worked as a closer and flashed impressive strikeout ability, but he is a lottery ticket at this point in his baseball-playing career.
