CANDELARIO TO THE CUBS

The Chicago Cubs acquired infielder Jeimer Candelario, and cash from the Washington Nationals for infielder Kevin Made and pitcher DJ Herz.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In a surprising turn of events the Cubs have become a buyer! Candelario is having a resurgent season, leading all NL third baseman in doubles and ranking in the top five in multiple other categories. His bat should fit right into the middle of the Cubs lineup and provide them with a big offensive boost. Chicago hopes that offensive boost also boosts their chances at making the playoffs this season.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
Made is a young, high-upside prospect. He was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019. He is known more for his glove, but with some added offense he could make his mark in MLB. He is in high Single-A ball, so the Nationals will have to be patient. Herz is a left-handed pitcher the Cubs have been trying to develop as a starter. Washington will most likely do the same with Herz, with his floor being a left-handed reliever.

Fantasy impact
Candelario has been one of the more productive fantasy third basemen this season. There is no reason to believe that will not continue with the Cubs. He should get even more run producing opportunities in a better offense. Made and Herz are too low in the minors to have any fantasy impact at this time.
