RANGERS REEL IN CHAPMAN
The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Aroldis Chapman from the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Cole Ragans and outfielder Roni Cabrera.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers are getting a quality left-handed reliever who was being used as more of a setup man than closer this season. In Texas, Chapman could share closing duties with Will Smith and/or Joe Barlow. At worst, he will continue in a setup role for a contender.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals are doing some early selling of a good asset, since they are not contending this season. Ragans was pitching out of the bullpen for the Rangers this season, but he might return to a starting role in KC. Cabrera is a really young outfielder with long-range promise.
Fantasy impact
While Ragans and Cabrera are now on the keeper-league radar, Chapman has a bit more fantasy value now that he has gone from KC to Texas. Pick him up if available.
