TORONTO PICKS UP POP, BASS

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitchers Zach Pop and Anthony Bass, and a player to be named later from the Miami Marlins for infielder Jordan Groshans,

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are getting a pair of solid relievers to help out their bullpen down the stretch. Including Groshans, one of their best prospects, is a bit of a surprise but Toronto clearly has playoff aspirations.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
In Groshans, the Marlins land a 2018 first-round draft pick who could be the heir apparent to Miguel Rojas at the shortstop position in Miami. He also plays third, and may get the call to MLB before the end of '22.

Fantasy impact
Both Pop and Bass could become bigger sources of holds in Toronto than was the case in Miami, but they have little chance at garnering saves down the stretch. Groshans has not advanced as quickly as a hitter as was expected, but there is still some long-range offensive upside. Fantasy leaguers could do worse than to pick him up in keeper formats.
