DICKERSON DEALT TO TORONTO
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired designated hitter Corey Dickerson, pitcher Adam Cimber and cash from the Miami Marlins for infielder Joe Panik and pitcher Andrew McInvale.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
For the Blue Jays, this deal makes sense because they have been searching for a veteran left-handed batter for quite some time now. In fact, they almost signed Houston's Michael Brantley last off-season but the latter chose to remain with the Astros at the last minutes. Dickerson is Brantley-lite. Cimber should also help Toronto's bullpen sitiuation, while the cash will help cover some of Dickerson's remaining salary.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins seem committed to giving Jesus Sanchez an extended look in left field, so trading Dickerson (who is still currently on the Injured List) is a logical move at this time. In Panik, the Fish get a decent left-handed bat off the bench and an infielder who can play all positions in a pinch. McInvale is the key to the trade from Miami's perspective as a potential arm for the bullpen in the future.
Fantasy impact
Dickerson was likely going to lose playing time to Sanchez when he returned from injury, so the move to Toronto (where he can serve as the DH as well as fill in on the outfield corners) should benefit him. Cimber's stock remains the same after moving from Miami to Toronto, while McInvale is a name to keep an eye on for down the road. Panik should come off the bench in Miami, so his fantasy value remains negligable.
