The Cards net a solid, if unspectacular starting pitcher in veteran righty Westbrook. He'll help St. Louis because he is a sinkerballer who pitches to contact--which is what pitching coach Dave Duncan is all about. The Cards also get a marginal prospect in this deal (Greenwood).
What does it give the San Diego Padres
Ludwick adds more power to the Pads outfield. He recently returned from injury, so he should instantly become a regular corner outfielder for San Diego. He recently was losing playing time to Jon Jay in St. Louis, so the writing may have been on the wall.

The Tribe land a decent pitching prospect from the Pads in Kluber, while shipping out their staff ace (Westbrook). This is yet another tell-tale sign of Cleveland's lengthy rebuilding process, which is well under way.
