CUBS FINALLY FIND LEFT-FIELDER

The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Matt Lawton from the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Jody Gerut.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
All season, the Cubs have been in search of someone to hold down the fort in left field and now they have Lawton to do that. The two-time all-star is having another solid season and may see more balls fly out of the park at Wrigley Field than in Pittsburgh.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
This was more a money deal for the Bucs than anything else, dumping Lawton's contract. The 27-year-old Gerut was a surprisingly powerful rookie for the Indians in 2003 but hasn't been the same since then. Dealt to the Cubs earlier in July, he rarely played and managed just one hit in 12 at-bats. He'll pick up some starts in right field for the Pirates, but won't be an everyday guy.
