MAEDA MOVED TO MINNESOTA

The Minnesota Twins acquired pitcher Kenta Maeda, catcher Jair Camargo and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Brusdar Graterol, outfielder Luke Raley and a supplemental second-round draft pick in 2020.

What does it give the Minnesota Twins
This was originally expected to be a three-team trade with the Red Sox. Instead, it winds up as a six-asset swap but the Twins got their man in the end: Maeda. The Japanese hurler should give Minnesota an upgrade in their starting rotation and provide quality innings. He has not always been consistent in MLB but is dominant when on top of his game. Minnesota also acquired catcher Camargo, 20, and will also get cash back from Los Angeles in this deal. This is a solid trade for the Twins.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
Graterol was supposed to go to Boston in the original, three-team version of the Maeda trade. Instead, the Dodgers will keep him and look to maximize his talent. The Red Sox were scared by Graterol's physical results but LA has the luxury of being patient with him. The Dodgers also got back Raley (originally drafted by LA in 2016) and will receive the 67th pick in the '20 draft to complete this trade. Trading Maeda at this time makes financial sense for a loaded Dodgers squad.

Fantasy impact
The trade should help both Maeda (who will have a more permanent spot in the starting rotation with Minnesota) and Graterol (who has a chance to become a dominant closer with the Dodgers). The deal does not help Raley much though, as he now rejoins an LA franchise loaded with outfield talent. Camargo is off the keeper radar for now.
