CATCHER CASTILLO TRADED TO TEXAS

The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Welington Castillo and international bonus pool money in 2019-20 from the Chicago White Sox for infielder/outfielder Jonah McReynolds.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
While the Rangers may decide to keep Castillo, they are not expected to exorcise the $8 million club option on his contract for 2020. So, Texas mostly made this move in order to secure more international bonus pool money (which are the future considerations included in this deal).

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The White Sox were willing to send some international bonus pool money along with Castillo here mostly because the latter lost the starting catcher job to James McCann during 2019. In McReynolds, the Pale Hose land a marginal utility man prospect.

Fantasy impact
While Texas needs more help at the catching position, it is not yet certain whether Castillo will be re-signed by the Rangers. Therefore, he should not be on the 2020 draft board unless he is able to land a starting gig somewhere. Even if he does, he is a very marginal fantasy option at the catching position.
