CATCHER KRATZ GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO

The San Francisco Giants acquired catcher Erik Kratz from the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder C.J. Hinojosa.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants are adding the 38-year-old veteran to back up star backstop Buster Posey this season. This move also allows San Francisco to take things slowly with prospect Joey Bart (who will likely supplant Kratz at some point). Kratz is a solid pro who understands his role.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers had no room for Kratz anymore, following the off-season acquisition of Yasmani Grandal as a free agent. So, Kratz was shipped to the Giants in exchange for infielder Hinojosa, a 24-year-old who has not played above Double-A ball at this point.

Fantasy impact
Kratz will not receive enough at-bats behind Posey to make a dent in fantasy leagues, even if the latter gets hurt (because San Francisco will likely recall Bart to share time with Kratz, at least). As for Hinojosa, he has no fantasy value.
