TORREYES TO THE CUBS
The Chicago Cubs acquired infielder Ronald Torreyes from the New York Yankees for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The versatile Torreyes is a serviceable backup infielder who appeared in 41 MLB games with the Yankees (at 2B, SS and 3B0 in 2018. Since Chicago manager Joe Maddon loves to utilize all of his players at multiple positions as much as possible, Torreyes should be a good fit with the Cubs and see even more action in 2019.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees are rather deep in backup infielders with incumbent Tyler Wade now joined by newcomers Tim Locastro and Hanser Alberto. Therefore, New York was comfortable in designating Torreyes for assignment recently. They will likely get a marginal prospect or cash in return for Torreyes.
Fantasy impact
Despite Maddon's mad-scientist approach to moving position players around, Torreyes is a long shot to make a fantasy impact at any point in his career. After all, he is already 26 years old. He MAY have some value during the 2019 MLB season if significant injuries pile up among Chicago position players.
