NICOLAS FOR CALLIHAN
The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Kyle Nicolas from the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder/infielder Tyler Callihan.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds add to their bullpen depth by bringing in Nicolas. The right-hander pitched serviceably in middle relief the past two seasons, but he tends to allow too many baserunners. He will compete for a role with Cincinnati's pitching staff in 2026, though he could split time between the big leagues and minors.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
In Callahan, the Pirates get an interesting and versatile prospect. In the minors, the 25-year-old has proven he can hit for average, get on base and steal bases. He made his MLB debut briefly in 2025. Callahan should now get a better chance to contribute with Pittsburgh over the next few seasons.
Fantasy impact
For now, this trade won't have a fantasy impact. Over time, Callahan could benefit from joining a shallower Pirates organization, but he is unlikely to be an impact fantasy hitter.
